Hi and welcome to our Century Park virtual open house we are excited to welcome you back to Century Park for the 2020 21 school year and I'd like to let you know about a few of the things that are different at Century Park and of course some of the things that will be the same first of all you will see us in masks I'm going to take mine off just so you can hear me better in the video first of all I would like to review a few of our drop-off procedures we do anticipate that we're going to have an increased amount of parent traffic at the start of the school year and so we want make sure everyone understands the traffic flow to keep our students safe first of all when you pull up around school we have two lanes across the front of the school the lane closest to the sidewalk is for drop-off and please only have students exit on the passenger side of the car just to keep them safe the second lane is for driving through and when you get to the end the left-hand Lane must turn left to go out that drive if you were turn right along the main entrance that is a drop-off area area only and please again just have to exit on the passenger side of the vehicle to keep them safe and pull around we are asking everyone to help us preserve that small parking lot for our kindergarten parents at the start of the day and the end of the day we are going to have our kindergarten parents pick up at the little kids playground there is a fence and that will help us keep people a little more distance at the start and end of the day and for our younger kids to get to their classroom very easily if you're coming during the day just for a brief visit to the office feel free to drop park in that area next I'd like to have you join me inside and we'll talk a little bit about some of the things inside the building inside the building you will notice that we do have a line down the middle of the highway you have some directional signs reminding you which way to go just to keep our traffic flow moving and you will see you tonight signage helping us remember that we are going to try to maintain some distance at school you will also note a few changes in the office so we have plexiglass we have plexiglass in front of Mrs. Dalmasi's area and mrs. and you notice they both have their masks on students we want you to remember that you have grown a lot since last March and you will be wearing a mask at school and it is very difficult to tell who people are with a mask so we try our best to get your name right right away but it might be that we just don't recognize you with your mask on especially when you're working with people in the office like the secretaries or Mr. Peltz for myself or Mr. Kosiara or Mrs. Meusen or Mrs. Mergan that need to know a lot of students you may need to really help us out this year and just tell us who you are and your teacher right away and parents if your students will be wearing paper mask if you want to write their names on it with Sharpie that would really be a guest for any of the school people I'm just to know that your child's name right away it's important thing to us but it is significantly harder when students are wearing a face mask in our classrooms you're going to notice that we do have extra space as you can see we've separated the desk as much as possible this is a sixth grade classroom that I'm showing right here that we do have distancing as best as we can arrange you will also notice that we have removed a lot of classroom furniture in order to create more space for our students so there are some sections of the building that you will see stored and hopefully in the future we can pull some of that back into the classroom while students are in their classrooms this year they will stay in that spot that will be considered their home at school and they will have all specials which are music art and library in their classroom and we will have PE outside whenever possible and that will keep our students in one spot for most of the school day here we are in the comments you can tell very quickly that this area is not ready for students that is because you are going to be eating your lunch in your classroom the school year so students when we will offer hot lunch and at the start of the year our hot lunches will be sack lunch is they're easier to prepare and easier to manage for us at the beginning of year that may change later on we may have more entrees offered over time but you will place your order in the morning with your teachers and we will have a couple of choices each day they will be delivered to your class we will also continue to offer breakfast but that will look a little bit different we will have tables at the upper end and the lower el end that will have sack breakfast displayed they probably will have the same items in the bag each day so if you want to breakfast when you come in in the morning you can grab a breakfast and take it to your classroom and your classroom teacher when they are doing their lunch account they will mark if you but they will also mark if they noticed that you have taken a breakfast in so they will mark that at that point so we hope that goes well everyone will need to make sure they do a good job washing before lunch and afterwards and then we will clean the tables before the afternoon learning starts now I want to talk about recess I know a lot of students wondering how recess will look this year so let me go over a few things we will have you wash in and wash out for recess so that means either using hand sanitizer or soap and water at the sink and that is one way we will see what we will do any time you lead on the playground we will be in limiting students in a Zone a Zone area the playground to two classrooms at a time for example if your class was assigned to play on the big kids playground classes in that area and and we will also have the Canal Zone which is kind of the middle area behind the school and we have the little kids playground and we will need to be scheduling all of our recesses we would like to have some resources with only one class because that would mean our students could take off their masks but we may need to go up to the limit of 50 students which would be two classes and at that time the students will be required to wear masks we are aware that everyone needs a break from their mask once in awhile so we have designated areas in the outside area on our grounds for each grade level or a teacher area for a mask break with their students parents we would like to have students bring in either a bath towel or a beach towel doesn't need to be anything new and fancy but we would just like to keep their locker area during and sent home on Friday so if their teacher takes them out for a mask break they can put their towel down and possibly read or maybe do a short lesson or maybe the teacher will give a short activity break while they're all spaced out to do some motions or exercises or something so we are very aware that our students will need breaks and we will do our best to to give them at a time when we can guarantee six feet of distance so now you realize that there's going to be a lot of things that are different this year at Century Park but a lot of things are still going to be the same at the start of the year your teachers will take a lot of time to explain new expectations for you and they will practice them in your classroom so we will help you be successful B.A.R.K. students we want you to Be dependable Accepting Respectful and Keep engaged and we will do our best to teach you what you need to know to be successful this year at Century Park we are welcoming several new staff members due to some teachers switching to remote learning so look forward to getting your emails from your teachers welcoming you to their class and we will be posting videos of the teachers and teachers will also share a live Google Meet and that will be from 5 to 6 on Thursday night teachers will start three different sessions so just choose whichever time frame works the best for your family we are really looking forward to welcoming you back to school we can't wait to see our students on Monday morning just a reminder that Monday is a half day of school we do dismiss at 11:36 and students we would really like to have you come to school come inside and go to your classroom with your back packs and jackets and your teachers will explain our new procedure and have you go and hang up your things in the mud room area so have a great weekend hope you enjoy your teacher's open house they have been working so hard on their classroom and to get everything ready for you to return on Monday and we'll see you then
